When I was in the first grade of elementary school, I had a little red diary. It lasted for five years, and I wrote every day. Later diaries I kept one year at a time, and as an adult I began to write my feelings about daily events in a large book used as ledgers for bookkeepers. This was therapy for me, and proved to be therapeutic. I didn’t even realize it at the time, but it was the best thing I could have done for myself through some difficult years.
I discovered art journals in 2010. “Junk journals” came into my life a few years later, and the pretty ruffly vintage style later still. I like the vintage artwork which seems to be popular with most everyone these days, but I admit my own style is a bit of junk journal/vintage. When I am choosing ephemera I will use flowers but I rarely choose lacey — what I call “foofy” items. That’s just me. I am impressed, however, with what others do with the style.
A few years ago, sadly, I lost the ability to write. My handwriting is no longer much of an option in my journals, so I like to use printed quotations. Because I used to write pages and pages every day, this has been a difficult transition for me. This means blogging is a reasonable substitute for the writing I used to do. Here we are.
